Straight teeth without braces

Tru-Line is a new all Australian invisible orthodontic system (IOS). There are no wires, metal brackets or bands to irritate your mouth and interrupt your smile. It is convenient and easy to use which makes it ideal for busy, appearance conscious adults. Most people won’t even notice you’re in treatment so there is no reason not to smile!

This system uses a series of unique, custom-made, and transparent plastic aligners to gently clip over your teeth and are virtually invisible. Each aligner is slightly different and each brings you closer to the smile you deserve. Tru-Line IOS is safe, comfortable and proven to work.

Each new aligner is worn at intervals of 3 weeks. After wearing a sequence of several aligners under the supervision of Dr Robert Harper, your teeth will reach their ideal prescribed position. Most patients can benefit from this system however, not every case is suitable so it is important to discuss your options with Dr Harper before proceeding.

For more information or to arrange a consultation appointment with Dr Harper about the Tru-Line Invisible Orthodontic System please call 03 9429 0011 and our reception staff will arrange an appointment for you.

Continuing education

My family and I attended a wedding in Perth recently. It was a lovely occasion, my enthusiasm as an amateur photographer was tested because I was asked to be the “official photographer” It was very successful and I learned a lot about photography. Apparently the first rule for successful wedding photography is to say no!

I took the time in Perth to attend an advanced training course at Erkodent Australia on construction of sports mouthguards.
With so many of you or your families involved in sports maybe it is time to protect your beautiful smile.

Wisdom teeth and what to do about them

Wisdom teeth, or third molars, are the last teeth to erupt into the mouth usually in your late teens, twenties or even older. Often there is little space for them to erupt, in these cases the tooth will become wedged or “impacted”. Some impacted teeth can remain buried and cause no trouble; others may cause severe problems such as:
  1. Infection
  2. Pain
  3. Crowding
  4. Cysts
  5. Damage to nearby molars
  6. Ulcers at the site
  7. Food trap area
When wisdom teeth cause one or more of the above problems we may often recommend they be removed. This is a very common procedure and should be done as soon as possible. If your wisdom teeth are likely to be difficult or complicated, we may refer you to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. A specialist of this nature is specifically trained in surgery of the mouth, teeth, gums and jaws.

Acute infection around a wisdom tooth will initially be managed with hot salt water mouth rinse or disinfectant rinse, painkillers and in some cases a course of antibiotics.  He may also decide to delay removal of the tooth until the infection has resolved.

You can get in early and remove wisdom teeth before they get a chance to cause you problems.  This may be done for the following reasons:
  1. There is not enough room for them to erupt into the mouth
  2. You need orthodontic work
  3. The tooth has caused intermittent trouble and should be removed before it gets worse
It is best to do this while a person is young but can be done in later years. It is simply easier when you’re younger as the tooth is not fully developed and the bone is not as dense, making removal much simpler and less traumatic.

At Richmond Fine Dentistry we have onsite digital OPG radiograph to promptly diagnose wisdom teeth problems. The OPG can also discover cysts, tumours and non-symptomatic abscesses.
